Snowshoe Trail Update (Feb. 11)
The Little Alpino and the short loop of the Diable Vert are open and marked with the distinctive yellow/pink ribbons as well as with blue signs. The long loop of the Diable Vert is still marked with 2-year old ribbons, and needs some work. Unless you know this trail well and are prepared to get lost, I would advise against going on this part of the trail until we have had a chance to mark it.
We have laid out the trails as one-way trails in clockwise loops. Unless you know the trails well, it would be wise to follow those directions.
There has been some confusion about the signs. This picture shows the trail marking at the fork on the Diable Vert, where you have a choice of going left onto the long loop, or right back towards the Viking clubhouse. The confusion is related to the latter sign, which many people do not recognize as a sign directing you back to the clubhouse.
During the two coming weekends, we plan to work on the Diable Vert. We will make some changes at the eastern end of the trail and mark it with ribbons and blue signs. You are welcome to join us and help us in this work. We usually leave the clubhouse between 9:30 and 10:00 am on Saturdays. If we have already left, follow the trail. We’ll be moving slowly. If you can’t find us, enjoy the trail.
